Dr. Hilary E. Bacon
Chemical Engineer
A memorial service for Dr. Hilary E. Bacon, a consulting chemical engineer, will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Charles street and Melrose Avenue.
Dr. Bacon who was 85 and lived in Roland Park, died Tuesday at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center after becoming ill at work.
He had been associated with Sheppard T. Powell Associates since 1934 and was a retired senior partner in the firm.
Born in Evansville, Ind., he was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and came to Baltimore in 1928 after working for a time in his father's department store.
In Baltimore, he became a graduate student at the Johns Hopkins University and earned his doctorate there shortly before he joined the Powell firm.
His wife, the former Francis Atchinson, who died in 1982 was the founder of the School of the Chimes.
He is survived by a daughter, Albion B. Dunagan of Baltimore, a sister, Joy B. Witwer of Niles, Mich., and five grandchildren.
