William Douglas Akers, 69, of Floyd, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2013. William was born November 16, 1943, to Ralph and Lelia Duncan Akers. William will be deeply missed by his brother, Lloyd Akers Sr.; and his sister, Lois Akers Tatum, both of whom cared for him throughout his life. William is additionally survived by numerous nieces and nephews; a beloved aunt, Irene Akers Nixon; and a dear uncle, Vance Duncan, both of Christiansburg; as well as his best friend, Paul Wade, of Indian Valley.
The family would like to thank the congregation of White Rock Church of the Brethren for their Christian fellowship during his membership there, and to thank Dr. Garry Kuiken and staff, who so patiently provided William with excellent medical care for much of his life. The family would also like to thank the many people who extended kindness and the hand of friendship to William throughout his life.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at White Rock Church of the Brethren. A celebration of William's life will follow immediately, with interment thereafter at White Rock Cemetery. The Reverend Michael Pugh will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to White Rock Church of the Brethren's Building Fund, c/o Gina Straub, 3038 Mud Pike Road, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
