Rowena Prince Brodnax, 92, of Vista, California, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014. She was born on November 4, 1921, in Silsbee, and was reared by her grandparents, Josephine and Frank Prince. Rowena can be most remembered as a beloved sister, grandmother, and aunt. Rowena attended Kountze High School, Lamar College, and Radford College in Virginia. She taught school for thirty-two years; seventeen years in Fin Castle, Virginia and fifteen years with Warren Independent School District. During her life, she served her community by being active in numerous school clubs, Teachers Association, as well as civic organizations. Rowena served as finance secretary and head of memorials with Wildwood-Village Mills United Methodist Church. Survivors include her sister, Patricia Upton, of Pearland; step-son, L.D. Brodnax, Jr. of Mazatlan, Mexico; granddaughters, Lisa Cook and her husband, Mike, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Claire Bronte of Oceanside, California; great-grandchildren, Amy, Kelsey, Nathan, Jake, and Peggy and Brandon Cook; nephews, Ronnie Upton; Tommy Upton; and John Upton and his wife, Mary Claire; great-nephews, Christopher, Tommy, and Jack; and great-niece, Cathy. She is preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Brodnax, Sr.; and grandson, Rick Brodnax. A memorial service for Mrs. Brodnax will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Wildwood-Village Mills United Methodist Church, 5943 FM 3063, Village Mills, under the direction of Broussard's, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.
