Major League Baseball Player. Born in Mount Morris, Illinois, he was a right handed pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals 1936, Philadelphia Athletics 1938 to 1941, 1948, Boston Red Sox 1941, St. Louis Browns 1943 o 1948 and Boston Braves 1949. He helped the Browns win the 1944 American League Pennant, the Braves win the 1948 National League Pennant and played with each team in the World Series. In 12 seasons he had a 92-97 win-loss record, 22 saves, 6 shutouts, 747 strikeouts and a 3.99 earned run average.
