Father of humorist Will Cuppy (1884-1949). He was at different times a grain dealer, a seller of farm implements and a lumber buyer for the Eel River Division of the Wabash Railroad. He married Mary Frances Stahl (1855-1927) in Auburn, Indiana, on March 9, 1881. They divorced in 1903. They had three other children besides Will: an unnamed boy who died shortly after birth in 1881; Anna B. (1883-1940); and Jack R. (1887-1898). According to his Cass County death certificate, his body was sent for burial to the South Whitley Cemetery, where other members of his family are buried; but there is no stone there with his name. He belonged to the Masons and the I.O.O.F. Cause of death: stomach cancer. Find A Grave contributor Shevi Tarler has notified me that the cemetery office confirmed that this burial is unmarked.

T.J.Cuppy Obituary from The Waterloo Press, Waterloo, Ind., vol. LV, no. 20, Thursday, Dec. 19, 1912, Part 6 (p. 25), column one:

Thos. J. Cuppy, formerly of Auburn, and a man who has passed through many great trials in life, died at Longcliff Hospital, Logansport, Wednesday morning, Dec. 11 [sic] . The immediate cause of death was cancer. He will be remembered by many readers of this paper as the husband of Miss Frances Stahl. His brother, William H. Cuppy, was captain of Co. E, 44th Regt., Ind. Vols., and severely wounded at Fort Donalson [sic] Feb. 6, 1862, from which wound, after months of suffering, death resulted. The Cuppy family were among the prominent people of South Whitley.
