Herman(us) Aneweer was born in February 1857 in Stapelmoor, a village on the banks of the river Ems in Ostfriesland (East Friesland), nowadays a part of the municipality of the city Weener, located in the extreme northwestern part of Germany, not far away from the Dutch border, son of Herman Anewer and Franckie Speckler.

On November 12, 1884 Herman Anewer married in the city of Hampton, seat of Franklin County, in the northern central part of Iowa to Helena Harms "Lena" Koenen, born in 1867 in Ockenhausen, in Ostfriesland too, Germany.

In 1885 their daughter Florence was born in the tiny community of Chapin, Franklin County, Iowa. On October 4, 1886 Harm was born in Chapin. About 1887 daughter Kate was born in Franklin County too, on August 20, 1888 Herman, in 1890 in Chapin Minnie, and on February 19, 1893 Jerry, in Chapin too. In 1895 Herman [II] was born in Kosuth County, in the extreme northern part of Iowa, about 1896 Icko and about 1899 (Lu)sena.

In 1895 the family Aneweer lived in Wesley, Kossuth County, located in the extreme northern part of Iowa, and in 1900 in Marion, Franklin County.

In 1913 his wife Lena died in Dumont, Butler County, located in the northeast-central part of Iowa.

In 1920 widower Herman Aneweer (60 years old) and his in Iowa born childen Icko (21), Jerry (26), Herman (23) and Senea (20) were living in Butler County, Iowa.

Herman died in December 1926 at the age of 69 years in Bristow, Butler County, Iowa. His obituary was posted in a local newspaper on December 4, 1926.
