Pioneer Atlantan, Mrs. E. C. Allen, Dies

Mrs. E. C. Allen, 75, pioneer Atlanta woman, died Thursday afternoon at her home, 62 Todd road. Mrs. Allen was a member of one of Atlanta's most prominent families, three of her sons being well known here in business circles.

Mrs. Allen was a native of Huntsville, Ala. She moved with her family to August in girlhood, and when she was 15 years old her family moved to Atlanta, where she has lived since.

She never took an active part in club life, but was a devoted member of the First Methodist church. She had a wide circle of friends.

Before her marriage, Mrs. Allen was Miss Mattie Lou Veal. Her husband, the late E. C. Allen, who died about 15 years ago, was in the wholesale grocery business in Atlanta and was prominent in business and civic circles.

She was the mother of Scott W. Allen, prominent Atlanta, and president of the Southern Grocery company. Two other sons are also connect with the Southern Grocery company. Thomas R. and William W. Allen.

Mrs. Allen is survived by two other sons, Colonel Hugh Allen, of the United States army in Washington, D. C. and Colonel Richard Allen, also of the United States army, stationed in Seattle, Wash., and three daughters, Mrs. V. L. Server, Mrs. T. P. Thomason and Mrs. G. E. Carroll, all of Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the chapel of Harry G. Poole. The Rev. F. C. McConnell will officiate and interment will be in Oakland cemetery.

The following will act as pallbearers: Charles H. Ivey, Robert J. Hudson, Clifford Witcher, J. B. Shields, Guy Carmichael, C. R. Barnett, John Tarleton and B. C. Sale.
