US Congressman. Born in Woodbridge, Connecticut, he became a wealthy merchant and manufacturer in Meriden, Connecticut, and served in the Connecticut State Militia, rising to Major General. After serving as a county court judge and in the Connecticut State Assembly, he was elected as a Free Soil Party candidate to represent Connecticut's 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. He served a single term from 1849 to 1851, and was defeated for re-election in 1850 by Democrat Colin M. Ingersoll. He continued his successful Meriden manufacturing business, and passed away in 1870.
