Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recepient. Born in Yoxoll, Staffordshire, England, he served as a Private in the 1st Battalion, 60th Rifles, King's Own Royal Rifles Corps, British Army. During actions at Delhi, India, on July 9, 1857, when an officer was surrounded by a party of Ghazees, Private Thompson went forward to his relief. He killed two Ghazees before could reach the officer and then gave him assistance to safe position. Two months later he was badly wounded in the Siege of Delhi and saw no further active service. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on January 20, 1860. He died at age 61 in Walsall, England.
