Mike Welder was born May 17, 1920, on the family farm south of Napoleon, the son of Anton and Rosina (Feist) Welder. He grew up on the family farm and received his elementary education in rural Shell Butte School.
He married Catherine Mathern on Jan. 5, 1943, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Logan County. They returned to the Welder Homestead, where they lived and farmed for several years before they moved to a farm by Burnstad.
In 1950, they purchased a farm nine miles north of Napoleon, where they farmed until retiring in Napoleon in 1977.
On Dec. 26, 1999, he moved into the Napoleon Care Center.
Mike was a member of Knights of Columbus and the Fire Department.
He also loved music and used to play the clarinet in the Frank Sperle Band as a young man. He often played the harmonica for family and friends. He was a good storyteller and had a good sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; his parents; one brother, George; 11 stepbrothers and stepsisters; his brother-in-law, Wendelin Doll; and one grandchild.
