Port Leyden friends were grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. Mary J. Brown, which occurred at Carthage, Sunday afternoon last, following an illness of about three weeks. Mrs. Brown suffered a slight shock three weeks ago Saturday and fell breaking her left hip. Since that time she had been confined to her bed. Mrs. Brown was 8O years, three months and 14 days of age, and was born in Massachusetts April 26, 1834. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Martha Hitchcock. She was married in early life to William T. Brown of Port Leyden, whom she survived by several years. She made her home in this village until about nine years ago, when with her son, Charles H. Brown, she went to Carthage to reside and has since made that place her home. She is survived by two sons, Charles H. Brown of Carthage and G. F. Brown, of Springfield, Mass., also one brother, A. W. Hitchcock of Manchester, Conn. The funeral was held at Carthage Wednesday morning and the remains
were brought to this village on the afternoon train for interment in the family plot at Port Leyden Cemetery
