Edwin J. Bauer, 81, Wausau, died Monday, Mar. 27, 2006, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born Jul. 15, 1924, in Marathon City, son of the late Rudolph and Elizabeth (Michlig) Bauer. On Sep. 25, 1948, he married Josephine Grendzinski at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. She survives.

During World War II, Ed served his country in the U.S. Army with the 416th Ordinance as a technician 5th Grade. He was active in the Wausau chapter of the Loyal Order of Moose, holding the Governor's position and also received the Fellowship Degree. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Ed worked at Kickbush Wholesale from 1946 until 1960. He then went to work for Wausau Paper Mills in Brokaw from 1960 until his retirement in 1988. Ed was a volunteer for the Commission on Aging, Meals on Wheels Program.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Bauer, Wausau; one son, Richard (Karen) Bauer, Madison; one daughter, Rita Bauer, St. Louis Park, Minn.; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Dolores (Ellsworth) Luetzer, Merrill, Evelyn (Charles) Berg, Milwaukee, and Patricia (Don) McAllen, Anchorage, Alaska.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronald; one brother, Norman; and two sisters, Elvera Dalbec and Marie Tietz.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today, Mar. 30, 2006, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services today at the church.

Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
