Abigail Kingsbury, the eldest child of Jonathan Kingsbury and his first wife, Abigail Holt, was born on 17 Mar 1742 in Hampton, Windham county, Connecticut. Her brother, Jonathan, was born three years later on the 25th of April, 1745.

Abigail Kingsbury married John Gould on the 13th of Nov 1759, the youngest son of Rebecca (Cole) and Henry Gould, who was born on the 23rd of March 1731 in Ipswich, Essex county, Massachusetts. Abigail and John Gould lived in Ashford, Windham county where they raised their four children. After the birth of their first child, Abigail, on 14 February 1760, their son, John, was born on 14 August 1762. They named their second son, who was born on 28 April 1763, Jonathan. Then on the 8th of July 1765, the youngest child, Sally, was born. Abigail's husband died on the 28th of October of either 1764 or 1765 in Windham, leaving her a young widow with four children to raise on her own. On the 11th of September 1770, she married John Abbot in Hampton, Windham county. They stayed married for about twenty years until on the 14th of March, 1791, Abigail filed for divorce in the Windham County Superior Court on the grounds of desertion.

After her divorce from John Abbot, Abigail joined her children, Abigail (married to Jedidiah Watkins), Jonathan (married to Rachael) and Sally (married to Paul Davison), and their families who left Ashford, Connecticut to make their permanent home in the wilderness of Lima, New York. Soon after she arrived, Abigail became the first death in the town of Lima and the second in the Genesse county.
