Gertrude Jean Brown, 85, of Jacksonville, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born June 12, 1920, in Mechanicsburg, the daughter of Elmer Gordon and Anna Nora Allision Sparrow. She married Orville Ray Edwards on Oct. 17, 1940., and he preceded her in death Feb. 12, 1954. She married Kenneth Brown on March 17 1956, and he preceded her in death Jan. 14, 1966.
She is survived by two daughters, Bettie (husband, Wayne) Magelitz of Chapin and Wilma (husband, Charles) Israel of Jacksonville; one son, Thomas R. (wife, Mary) Edwards of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, John (wife, Eileen) Sparrow of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Antle; one son, Robert C. Edwards; one grandson, Aaron Israel; four sisters, Rosie Mae Barton, Dollie Louella Adams, Mabel Virginia Sparrow and Charlotte A. Sparrow; and five brothers, Charlie William Sparrow, Elmer Daniel Sparrow, Cornelius Franklin Sparrow, Clarence Edward Sparrow and Byron Gordon Sparrow.
Mrs. Brown was a housekeeper for Dr. Walter Frank for over 28 years. She attended Faith Tabernacle in Jacksonville. She loved her children and grandchildren, playing bingo and collecting dolls.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery.
