Major League Baseball Player. He was called the "Earl of Snohomish", a nickname originally given to Hall of Famer Earl Averill, who was from Snohomish, Washington just as Earl Torgeson was. He played Major League Baseball as a first baseman for fifteen seasons (1947 to 1961) with the Boston Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees. He was a member of the 1948 Braves team that won the National League pennant, then lost to the Cleveland Indians in the World Series, and a member of the 1959 White Sox team that won the American League pennant and lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Series. He led the National League in runs with 120 in 1950.
