Sebastian was born Jan. 7, 1908, in rural McIntosh County near Venturia, to John P. and Julia (Geffre) Schumacher. He was raised on the family farm and received his elementary education in rural McIntosh County schools. He continued to live and work on the family farm until his marriage to Anna Mitzel on Nov. 19, 1928, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, south of Napoleon. They farmed near Venturia. In 1938 they moved to a farm near Peters Siding, seven miles southeast of Napoleon. In 1954 while continuing to farm they moved to Napoleon. In 1970 they retired from farming and, in 1982, they moved to Bismarck where he has lived since that time.
Sebastian is a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Bismarck, and the Napoleon Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna; two sons, John and Pius; one grandchild, Dion Schumacher; one great-grandchild, Carissa Bender; one son-in-law, Al Bender; one brother and three sisters.
