Mrs. Clay died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
She was born June 20, 1908 in the Goodsprings Community. She was a member of Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Clay was an educator who retired in 1971 after 42 years of teaching in Limestone County schools including Rock-A-Way, Carriger, Union Hill, Goodsprings and Owens Junior High. She was a graduate of Lauderdale High School and of Florence Normal School (now the University of North Alabama).
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. "Jack" Clay; one brother, W.A. "Arthur" Scott; and one sister, Maggie Griffin.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Clay Weigart Nix of Russellville; one son, Sherwood A. Clay of Boulder, Colo.; three grandchildren, Dana Weigart Hickman, Thomas Christopher Weigart and Jacquinta Weigart Beavers; two step-grandchildren, April Nix and Randall Nix; and three great-grandchildren, Justin Weigart, Eliza Beavers and Rebecca Beavers; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dalton Scott, Joseph McConnell, Garland Bailey, Greg Chandler, Stanley Scott, Jimmy Clay, Thomas Scott and Steve Benge.
