In 1938 a man made lake was contructed just west of Stillwater. It was named after and is called Lake Carl Blackwell.

1917-18 Graduate, Carl P. Blackwell, on December 10 became dean of agriculture and director of the experimentstation of the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College at Stillwater. He was previously an agronomist for the National Fertilizer Company.

Death Comes to Dean Blackwell
Oklahoma A. and M. College Faculty Member Dies After Long Illness
STILLWATER, Okla. March 4 --Carl P. Blackwell, 51, dean of the school of agriculture at Oklahoma A. and M. college, died at his home here today.
Blackwell has been ill for several months. He was treated more than a month in an Oklahoma City hospital. When his condition showed improvement he returned to his home here.
Blackwell has been dean of agriculture at A. and M. since President Henry G. Bennett assumed the presidency of the institution in 1928. He was well known throughout the southwest for his contributions to agriculture.
He was a co-director for the Federal Resettlement administration district area in 1935-36 until headquarters was moved from here to Dallas, Tex. He was appointed to the state conservation commission in 1935. He also had served as a vice president of the Oklahoma cotton council.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the college auditorium on the campus. Burial will be here.
Survivors include the widow, two children, Carl Jr., 15, and Lucile, 11, and two brothers and three sisters.
Blackwell graduated from Oklahoma A. and M. in 1911. He was a member of the school track team and worked on the college newspaper.
He was one of six deans of the college and was popular among the faculty as well as the student body.
