Mary "Polly" Ann Scalf was d/o Jesse Scalf & Polly Eversole. Some records have her born 12-22-1938, but an 1860 census shows her age 17, making her born 1843. She married William "Limpy Bill" Amburgey. They had several children, one of them Albert Alfred Amburgey who married Cassie Mullins. Mary Polly Ann died either 1900 or 1910 or between those dates. I can only put 1 date on this form. After her death, her husb Limpy Bill went to live with one of his sons Albert Alfred Amburgey, his wife Cassie Mullins Amburgey & their children. One of those children ws my grandfather Odus Jay Amburgey. He told me he was abt age 5 when his grandpaw Limpy Bill lived with them. Limpy Bill was crippled from being bitten by a mad dog on his knee?, survived, & got the nickname "Limpy Bill". He always wore a handkerchief around his knee in pictures and spent the rest of his life having to sit in a chair. His grandson Odus (my grandfather) had to scoot Limpy Bill's chair out to the porch (with Limpy Bill in the chair). Limpy Bill & wife Mary Polly Ann Scalf are buried in Francis Day Cem, toward the middle back. My g/f Odus showed me where they were buried in the 1980's, but they had no stones. He was concerned tht he may be the only living descendent who knew tht his g/m Mary Polly was buried right above Limpy Bill. I noticed that some kind descendents put up a tombstone for Limpy Bill since then. I hope someone will kindly put up a tombstone for Mary Polly Ann someday. Because she died in 1900-1910, descendents & cemetary "readers" may not know she is even buried in this cem, as she is not listed in any burial name list for this cemetary or any other cemetary. Hopefully this memorial will inform her descendents where she is buried. I added this info to the Scalf websites also.
