Corwin S. "Corky" Burghardt, 88, of Fernandina Beach, Fl, died Tuesday February 28, 2006 in Dade City, Florida.

Born in Chenango Forks, NY on Nov. 21, 1917, he graduated in 1939 from Penn. State University with A.B.S. Degree in Forestry and a Minor in Engineering. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942 and fought in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Employment with Container Corporation of America brought the family to Fernandina Beach in 1960. He retired in 1983.

He attended St. Michaels Catholic Church where he was active in the Mens Club. As an adult Boy Scout Counselor, he was a charter member of the Timiquan Chapter of the Order of the Arrow where as a Vigil Member. He used his engineering skills to teach Compass Courses, Star Navigation and Map Reading to Boy Scouts.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Frances Burghardt, his sons Peter (Barbara) Burghardt of Zephyrhills, Fl., and David (Lisa) Burghardt of Fernandina Beach, FL., and his grandchildren, Christopher, Catherine and Elaine Burghardt.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday (TODAY) at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday from the Burgess Chapel of the Funeral Home with Fr. Brian Eburn officiating. He will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
