Funeral services for A. J. (Bert) Beebe were held Monday afternoon at the Taylor Funeral home in Atlantic at 2 o'clock. The Rev. A. Breeling of Grand officiated. Boyd Carleton accompanied by Mrs. H. P. Carlton sang "God's Voice Has Softly Called" and "Abide With Me". Pallbearers were Lete King, Otis Conn, Walter Burnside, Henry Hoover, George Ebert and Harry Marker. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. A. J. Beebe, 63 a former Lewis mail carrier and a former resident of Anita died Friday morning at 1:30, January 13, at the Garmsey nursing home in Atlantic where he had been a patient for several months. He had been suffering from asthma for several years. Bert Beebe was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beebe, long time residents of the Anita community before moving to Wiota. He was born at Norwalk, Iowa, February 13, 1886 and when he was two years old moved with his parents to a farm east of Anita. Following his marriage to Miss Zola Vernon of Anita they operated a cafe at Wiota, later moving to Lewis where he was a mail carrier until he was forced to retire due to ill health about five years ago. Mrs.. Beebe died April 1, 1949. Surviving is his son Vernon Beebe of Honduras, Central America, one sister, Mrs. Ella Johnson of Cambridge, Iowa and four grandchildren. Vernon Beebe arrived in Atlantic Sunday morning from Honduras, making the trip in 22 hours by plane. Mrs. Johnson, the sister had been at her brother's bedside since last Wednesday.
