Grace C. Bernardy, age 86, ofAustin, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Kathy Walsh of St. Cloud, MN surrounded by her five children.

Grace was born in Ghent, Minnesota on January 15, 1927 to Charles M. and Bernice (Korcal) Janis. She was married June 3, 1948 to Frank Bernardy in Ghent, Minnesota. Grace and Frank moved to Austin to work and raise five children. Grace's first year of teaching was in a one room school house teaching 1st through 8th grades, and she later worked as a tax preparer. She loved to quilt with her friends and continued playing in a bridge club until two months ago.

Survivors include her five children, Janis (Greg) McDonald, Mike Bernardy, Mary Bernardy (Don Hagan), Paul Bernardy (Tiffany Phelps), Kathryn (John) Walsh; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; mother, Bernice and father, Charles Janis; brothers, Robert, Clarence, Raymond, and James Janis.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am on Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. Edward's Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
