Marion D. Curtiss, age 89, a longtime Stanley resident, passed away on March 5, 2005, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley.Services will be on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Stanley, with Pastor Ruth Hamm officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date. Friends and family may call from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.Marion was born on June 9, 1915, in Huron, town of Colburn, Wis., the daughter of William and Ruth (Nasal) Pankratz and the first of their 13 children. She grew up in the Huron area and attended rural schools. She then was united in marriage to Ross Curtiss on Oct. 19, 1936, in Illinois. They then moved to Stanley, where Ross started his barbershop, and have resided here since. Marion and Ross had 54 wonderful years of marriage that survived the Great Depression and rejoiced in the love and admiration of their family.Marion is survived by her children, Pat (Harvey) Fohlbrook of Muskegon, Mich., Maribeth Mattes of Milwaukee, Wis., and Peggy (Rick) Bauer of Oak Creek, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Kerri Harrison of Grand Rapids, Mich., Kasey De Waandt of Spring Lake, Mich., Kurt Manley of Lawndale, Calif., Marty Mattes of Coronado, Calif., Mark, Marsha, Michelle and Michael Mattes all of Milwaukee, and Tim and Laura Bauer of Oak Creek; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, May (Herman) Seufzer, Alvina “Bunny” Western, Faye Martinek and June Hodowanic.Marion was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ross; and eight of her siblings.Marion was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanley. She worked many years at the Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley and later as a foster grandparent at school with the CESA program. Marion loved people, young and old, and was always there to give a helping hand.She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.Plombon Funeral Service in Stanley is in charge of arrangements.
