He graduated from Durant High School where he was President of his class and a three-letter winner in sports. He was “Big Black Tennis Champion one year and doubles champion for two years. After 38 years as a state supervisor of the residential sales office, Gallie retired from Mississippi Power and Light Company. Gallie served his country in the US Marine Corps where he earned his corporal stripes. Corp. Drane was stationed at General Vandergriffe’s post in Washington, DC. His greatest honor was at the Marine Corps 175th birthday. He had the pleasure of serving as an assistant to Admirals Lehey, Nimitz, King, General Vandergriff and Colonel Kendall.

Having a true love for nature, Gallie was an avid outdoor sportsman. He and his best friend Hunter Cole fished in every body of water that would float their boat. Jules Barlow told Gallie’s son Walton “ Boy- Your daddy could toss his cricket in the middle of a gravel road and catch a bream”. As an avid nature lover, he spent time hunting, raising quail, taming doves and nursing injured birds back to health. He had a passion for his garden and had a “green thumb” that could revive any wilting plant. While working in his garden or nurturing his plants, he loved feeding the many birds that sensed his passion for wildlife.

Gallie was a great sportsman and was very active in all sports. He was a member of the Mississippi Athletic Officials Association. He worked over 1000 basketball games and 436 football games. He served as Director of the Golden Gloves Boxing tournament for several years and was a referee and scorer.

He had a love for the English language allowing him to write poetry for any occasion or memorable event. He had a passion for words and their meaning making his poetry remarkable. He was a grand conversationalist as well as an excellent orator.
Having a great love for dancing, he was the past president of the Capital Dance Club. He has been described as a marvelous dancer.

One of his greatest thrills was when the President of the National Home Builders Association asked him to escort “Miss America”, Miss Linda Lee Meade for an hour as she was presented to the public at the convention in Chicago. Gallie was a former member of the Junior and Senior Chamber of Commerce of Jackson and Past president of the Optimist Club of Jackson.

Nothing gave Gallie more pleasure than sitting around sharing stories of friends and loved ones with his wife, his son, his grandchildren and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his childhood sweetheart and wife of 67 years Cloycie Angle Drane of Peachtree Village in Brandon, and one son Thomas Walton Drane, Sr. and his wife Carol of Pearl; five grandchildren, Cindy Bartlett and her husband Jim, Penny Brown and her husband James of Houston, TX, Amy Anthony of Palmetto, FL, Holly Purvis of Bay St. Louis and Walton Drane, Jr. and his wife Sandy of Pearl. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
Every morning he worked the crossword puzzle in the Clarion Ledger with his first cup of coffee until his recent illness.

Serving as pallbearers are Claude Clark, Dan Clark, Randy Clark, Kerry French, Kenny Gilmore and Randy Hester. Honorary pallbearer is Jim Burkett. All Pallbearers can attest to the fact that they spent hours where Gallie was happiest in a dove field, deer stand or in a fishing boat-alone or with his many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to McLaurin Heights Baptist Church, 404 Pemberton Dr., Pearl, MS 39208 or to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, 4395 South Dr.; Jackson, MS 39209.
