Georgia Alice Ervin was a sister of Hester Jane (Ervin) Howard, the mother of Texas writer Robert E. Howard. Alice was born to George W. Ervin and Sarah Jane Martin. After the Civil War, the Ervin family moved to Hill County, Texas. Sarah Jane Martin died in 1874 in Dallas, and George W. quickly remarried. In 1890, George and his second wife, Alice Wynne, moved to Missouri. While living in Exeter, Georgia Alice met Rev. John Frank Comer; they were married March 4, 1895. This union produced one child, Earl Lee Comer, born in 1898. The marriage quickly dissolved, with John Frank saying he was "widowed" on the 1900 US Census taken at Saint Louis, Missouri. Georgia Alice returned the favor for the 1910 Census, where she is reported as a widowed dress maker in Big Spring, Texas, where her older brother, William V. Ervin, lived. Following Alice's death in 1915, her son, Earl Lee, went first to live with Robert E. Howard and his family in Cross Plains, Texas; he later ended up as a draftsman in Dallas.
