Shirley Jean Dawson, 76, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013. Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013, at OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Graham, First Baptist Church of Woodway, officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waco Memorial Park.

Shirley was born in Blevins, Texas, to the late Ethel Keeton Battle and John Wesley Battle. While very young, she and her family moved to the area now known as Woodway. Shirley attended school at South Bosque and Hewitt as they consolidated to become Midway, and graduated from Midway High School. After graduating from 4-C Business College in Waco, she worked in the Quality Control office at General Tire where she met and later married, John Dawson. At First Baptist Church of Woodway, Shirley worked in Sunday School and Bible School, then later worked in the church baby nursery for over 38 years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John Dawson; and her sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Jim Nolen.

She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Mainord and husband, Steve, of Duncanville, Linda Reneau and husband, Terry, of Hewitt, and Susan Fuller and husband, Clint, of Frisco; son, Wesley Dawson and wife, Christy, of Woodway; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nephews, Mike, Mark, and Matt Nolen; and a host of cousins and other family members; long-time friend and coworker, Janice Smith; and many coworkers and friends from First Baptist Church of Woodway.
