Claude H. Audley, Sr. a 50-year resident of Wheaton Claude H. Audley, Sr. born March 20, 1920, passed on February 2, 2013.
Claude, a devoted husband and father and lifetime member of the NAACP was the prime organizer of the first Open Housing March in Wheaton, IL (1966) which led to the first open housing ordinance passed in the Chicago Western Suburbs in 1967. His many community service activities resulted in receiving the NAACP Medgar Evers Lifetime Achievement Award; the 2001 Citizen on the Year Award from the City of Wheaton; and many other awards and recognitions for services to humanity.
Claude leaves to morn and cherish his memory and legacy to his two children: Claude Jr. (Judge Cheryl D. Grant) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Iris D. Hardin (Steven K. Hardin) of Seattle Washington; his sister - LaVera Beard of Chicago Illinois; three grandchildren - Claude H. Audley III, Stephanie Hardin, Adrienne Hardin; great-granddaughter - Madison Audley Hinds; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at DuPage AME Church, 4300 Yackley Ave., Lisle, Ill. on March 1, 2013 at 7:00 pm.
