From the Meriden Record, Saturday, February 18, 1905.
Mrs. Richard M. Schaefer, of 20 Hickory Street, died at the Meriden hospital Friday afternoon about 5:30 o'clock after a long illness. Mrs. Schaefer had been suffering about a month with a complication of diseases, when nephritis set in and she was taken to the hospital. All that medical science could suggest was done for her, but to no avail, as
the disease had gotten too strong a hold upon her weakened system.
Mrs. Schaefer's maiden name was Minnie Frobel. She was born in Westphalia, Prussia, 47 years ago., and came to this country as a young girl.
Twenty-seven years ago she became the wife of Richard M. Schaefer, who with five children, survives her. The children are: Emil, clerk in Schmelzer's drug store, Richard, Charles, Nettie and Mabel. She also leaves an aged mother, Mrs. Mary Frobel (sic? - Karoline Frobel), two
sisters, Mrs. Nettie Dunnigan (sic? - Daenekindt) and Mrs. Carrie Strobel, and three brothers, Fred Frobel and August Frobel of Meriden and William Frobel of Denver, Colorado. [Note that Gustave, the presumed adopted one, is not listed.]
Funeral services will be held at her late residence, 20 Hickory Street, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. C. R. Tappert officiating. Burial will be in the West cemetery.
Mr. Schaefer is very ill, having recently undergone an operation at the hospital.
