Henry S. Dirlam died as a result of wounds received during the Siege of Chattanooga (Chattanooga Campaign) - at the battle of Missionary Ridge which was fought on November 25, 1863, during the Civil War.

He was a 1st Lt. with Company G. 41st Regiment of the OVI.
