ALTHEA G. MYERS, 90 ROCKFORD - Althea G. Myers, 90, formerly of Rockford, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, in Bloomington, Minn.
Born Dec. 28, 1920, in Sprankle Mills, Pa., the daughter of John and Beulah (Dobson) Maurer. Graduated from State Teachers College in Indiana, Pa., in 1942. Married Harold S. Myers on April 5, 1943, in Chicago; he died March 31, 1995.
Employed as a music teacher from 1943 to 1959 in Pennsylvania. Moved to the Rockford area in 1959. She taught in the Rockford public schools until 1982. Althea also taught private piano lessons in her home. Former member of Broadway Covenant Church. Member of ADK Teachers Sorority. Proud member of the Good Times Singers.
Survivors include daughters, Lynne (Howard) Gordon of New York, Lisa A. Rogers and Lori A. Myers, both of Minnesota; son, David L. (Janet) Myers of Iowa; grandchildren, Michael (Leigh) Gordon, Bethe Gordon, Matthew Myers, Paul Myers, Benjamin (Megan) Rogers, Philip Rogers and Katie Rogers; great-grandchildren, Maya and Kira; and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by brother, Forest Lorrain Maurer.
Service at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, in Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from noon to service time; Dean W. Parker will officiate.
Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
