Melvin Floyd "Snuffy" Baker was born March 29, 1918, in Thorndale . He was preceded in death by his mother, Theodosia Dean (Scott) Baker; father David Clarence Baker;
three sisters, Wilma Purtell, Vivian Rogers and Eileen Wooten; and his wife of 57 years, Vera Undean (Dunagan) Baker . He is survived by two sons, Bayward C. Baker and wife Kay of Shallowater, and David C. Baker and wife Lavell of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Cynthia Farmer of Shallowater,
David G. Baker of Lubbock, Jody L. Baker of Las Vegas, Nev., six great-grandchildren and three foster great-grandchildren.
He graduated from New Home High School in 1935, where his class took extra subjects so New Home could get Certifications . Mr. Baker was the last survivor of the class of 1935. He was a share cropper and fencer in Lynn County, farming and fencing the T-Bar Ranch. He moved to Lubbock County in early 40s and went to work for Pendley Body Co., mounting schoolbus bodies on truck chassis .He also worked for Hobbs Trailers until his retirement as van/body repair man. He loved fishing ,flowers, and dominoes .
Services for Melvin will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at Oakwood Baptist Church. The family will receive friends today between 5:30-7 p.m.
