Funeral service for Captain Robert Wade Miller, Sr., 65, of Jackson's Gap, will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Bro. Larry Hudson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dadeville City Cemetery with Police Honors provided by the Alexander City Police Department. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Captain Miller passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Russell Medical Center. He was born on January 2, 1948 in Alexander City, Alabama to Robert Henry Miller and Katie R. McAlpin. Captain Miller graduated from high school and attended Southern Union Community College and the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and later worked for the ACPD for 25 years, starting out as an Officer and working his way up to Captain until his retirement. Captain Miller was also the Captain over the Detective Division and in charge of the ACPD Honor Guard. He enjoyed horseback riding with his son and granddaughter, planting his garden and watching it grow, planning and taking family vacations, and was an avid Alabama football fan. Captain Miller was Baptist by faith and loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mattie Ruth Davis Miller of Jackson's Gap; son, Robert Wade Miller, Jr. (Cathy) of Jackson's Gap; son, Jessie Lynn Miller (Karen) of Jackson's Gap; grandchildren, Katlyn Marie Miller, Dylan Wade Miller, Jazmin Nicole Miller, and Olivia Tate Miller; mother, Katie R. McAlpin of Alexander City; sisters, Christie, Cindy, Mary, Elaine, Delaine, and Margaret; brother, Paul; and sister-in-law, Dianne Kale of Opelika.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Henry Miller.
