Richard's family was from County Cork, Ireland, although his death records indicate he was born in Liverpool, England and a birth certificate for his son indicates his name was Richard Welch and was born in Birmingham, England..

Our family story is that he was born inCounty Cork, Ireland and went to Liverpool, England to find work. His death certificate says he was born there so it may have been his father who went to England to find work.

Little is know of his life except that he married and came to America about 1882. He had a son, Richard May 8 1888 and allegedly a daughter around 1901. One story is His wife took the infant daughter and returned to England. Another story is the wife left for New York and died there, as did the daughter.

His grand daughter, Grace Ryberg says he was married twice and confirmed his name was Welch in England. The birth certificate for his son lists the mother as Mary Dickie from Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

His death certificate lists a deceased wife named Ellen at the time of his death. This person may be Ellen Briun or Breen from Ireland. Census records from 1900 and 1910 show a wife named Ellen.

I know he lived a short time with his son at the time of his death. Richard worked as a laborer most of his life. Census records show he rented homes or apartments as opposed to owning them.

According to his granddaughter, Grace Walsh Ryberg of North Carolina in 2015, some family members are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, Cook, Illinois, USA
