Mary Elizabeth Martin, born 25 Sept 1837 in Barnwell District, SC and died 1885 Decatur Co, GA. She married John Henry Dasher abt 1858 in Lowndes Co., GA. He was the son of Edwin Dasher and Susannah Wisenbaker. J.H. Dasher served in the 26th Georgia along with several of his Martin relatives. He was wounded in action in VA and was, for a period of time, a POW. John H. and Mary (Martin) Dasher had six children. Both are bur. Greenshade Cem. in Decatur Co., GA.

JOHN HENRY DASHER
John Henry Dasher was born in Effingham County, Georgia about 1834. He was a son of Edwin A. Dasher and Susan C. Wisenbaker, who were also born in Effingham County and married on February 6, 1833. The grand parents of John Henry were Christian Dasher, Jr. and Ann Harriet Bird. This family is descended from the early Salzburgers who arrived in 1734 in the area of present day Savannah, Georgia.
Some time between 1834 and 1840, Edwin Dasher moved his family to Stewart County, Georgia, along with his brothers Andrew Jackson and James A. Dasher. In the records of the 1832 Cherokee Land Lottery of Georgia, Edwin Dasher is listed as receiving property and at that time, was a resident of Effingham County. Edwin Dasher died in Stewart County in 1844, after which time his widow, Susannah, moved the family to Lowndes County. The home place was on Lot 153, 11th Land District of Lowndes County, which Mrs. Dasher sold to William R. Manning for $3,500 on August 2, 1860.

She was the daughter of John Martin and Mary Elizabeth Varn, both of whom died in Barnwell District, SC in 1848 during the typhoid epidemic of that region. John Martin was the firstborn son of Stephen H. Martin of Marion and Barnwell Districts, South Carolina and Lowndes Co., Ga. Mary Elizabeth Varn was the daugther of George Varn of Barnwell District, South Carolina.]
John Henry Dasher enlisted in the Confederate Army on May 14, 1862 in Savannah, Georgia, serving in Company H, 26th Georgia Infantry Regiment. His military record shows that he fought in the Battle of Mannassas, Virginia where he was wounded on August 28, 1862. In July 1864, he was wounded in the right arm and admitted to the General Hospital at Charlottesville, Va. On September 23, 1864, he was captured at Strausburg, Va. and taken to the prisoner of war camp at Point Lookout, Md. He was repatriated in the prisoner exchange of March 17, 1865 at Aiken's Landing, Va.
After the War, John Henry Dasher and Mary Elizabeth Martin
lived in the Naylor District of Lowndes County, Ga. His mother moved near Bemis after she sold her land in 1860. Susannah C. Dasher died March 1, 1894 and is buried at New Bethel Baptist Church near Bemis, Ga.
[About 1880, the Dashers] moved to Fowlstown, Decatur Co., Ga., just south of Bainbridge, where they lived with their daughter, Sarah Catherine Ivey. John Henry Dasher died in 1883 and Mary Elizabeth Martin Dasher died two years later, in 1885. They are buried by each other's side in Green Shade Cemetery in Decatur County, Ga.
