CLARENCE OWENS, the beloved son of the late Abraham and Roberta Owens was born on August 9,1911 in Birmingham, Alabama. On Sunday, October 16,1988, Clarence silently enter into The Kingdom of God.
Clarence was educated in Birmingham Public Schools System. He served in The United States Army, ranked to First Sergeant during World War Two and The Korean Conflict. Clarence served for twenty years and was highly decorated and Honorably Discharged in 1960.
Clarence married the late Mary Lucille Gore in 1945. Their union was blessed with four sons and one daughter. On December 26,1968 Clarence married the late Mary Addington. He loved and nurtured her son- Marshall as his own. Also a son of Detroit, Michigan- Clarence Jr..
Clarence was an active member of The First Mt, Olive Freewill Baptist Church for many years. He served on The Usher Board and received numerous awards for Public Service. Clarence was a faithful member.
Clarence began his civilian service at the Fort George Meade and The Aberdeen Proving Grounds as a Master Chef. He pursued his career in the Culinary Field at various establishment and began his own Catering Service. Clarence derived great pleasure from participating in Amateur Golf Tournaments.
Clarence leaves to mourn: six sons- Clarence Jr., James A., John E., Marshall, Glynn W. and C. Russell; one daughter: M. Delinda Dorsey; one sister: Aurelia Hill; one brother: Cleophus Owens; two sisters-in-law: Eleanor Owens and Peggy Lee Owens; one son-in-law: Robert: Robert Dorsey; three daughters-in-law: C. Juanita Owens, Joyce E. Owens and Karen Addington; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
