Cordelia Holstun Roton, a lifetime resident of Montgomery, passed away in Huntsville, Alabama on Monday, February 2, 2015.
She was born in Waverly, Alabama to Pleasant Reese Holstun and Annie Lizzie Holstun on July 20, 1915.
She was an active member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Montgomery and president of the Sunshine Sunday School Class.
For many years, Cordelia worked as an administrative assistant in the Legislative Reference Service and in the Alabama Department of Education.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Herbert Carl (Bummie) Roton. After their marriage in 1936, they lived for two years in Philadelphia when Bummie played for the Philadelphia Eagles. They were enthusiastic Auburn fans, attending as many games as possible. They especially enjoyed their association with Meagher's Marauders, a group of Bummie's former Auburn teammates, coached by Jack Meagher in the 1930s.
Mrs. Roton is survived by her three daughters, Sydna Johnson (Bill) of Huntsville, Delia Scott of Auburn, and Gwen Belle-Isle of Birmingham; 8 grandchildren, Ashley Reese Wells of Huntsville, Anna Wells Watts (Brant) of Birmingham, James Carter Wells (Juliet) of Huntsville, Leigh Gulley Nelson (Steve) of Titus, Gwen Langston Deese of Wallsboro, Herbert Preston Langston (Rachel) of Auburn, Amanda McMillan McCarthy (Kevin) of West Palm Beach, Florida and Megan McMillan Van Ella of Chicago, Illinois and 21 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Cordelia's grandsons, Carter Wells and Preston Langston and great-grandson, Devon Bellizio of Charlotte, North Carolina. Also serving as pallbearers are Bill Johnson, Brant Watts, Bob Childs, Ed Jones and Jackie Gulledge.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, at Southern Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, AL from 10:30-11:30 AM with the service immediately following. Reverend John Gaines will officiate with special friend Lynn Gulledge at the piano. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Whitesburg Gardens in Huntsville, and special friend, Susan Matthews, for Cordelia's excellent care over the last five years.

Roton, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1937, lettered at Auburn in 1935 and 1936. A tackle for Meagher’s Marauders, he helped lead Auburn to an 8-2 record in 1935 and a 7-2-2 mark in 1936 which included Auburn’s first bowl appearance in the Barcardi Bowl in Havana, Cuba.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Leak-Memory Chapel in Montgomery. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Leak-Memory Chapel.
