The son of George B. & Mary Ann Arnold, in 1860, he was a farmer living in Centre Township, Perry County. He stood 5' 6" tall and had light hair and blue eyes. No evidence of a marriage was uncovered by this researcher.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Perry County May 21, 1861, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg June 4 as a private with Co. B, 13th Pennsylvania Reserves (aka 42nd Pennsylvania Infantry, aka 1st Pennsylvania Rifles). Hospitalized for a as yet unknown reason, he left the facility without permission and never returned. The army changed his status to deserter to date August 5, 1863.

NOTE: His birth date calculates to June 28, 1839.
