James Harley "Jay Bird" Addison, Jr., 88, husband of Evelyn (Sumner) Addison of Union, SC, died Sunday, February 20, 2005, at 1:39 p.m. in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Born in Union on December 24, 1916, he was a son of the late James Harley Addison, Sr. and Floy (Gilbert) Addison.

A member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Mr. Addison was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy and was retired from Milliken and Company, Monarch Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Jo Carol and William Smith of Union; a son, James H., III and Linda Addison of Gastonia, NC; a brother, John Addison and wife Frances of Union; a sister, Bobbie Cathcart and husband Bob of Cary, NC; four grandchildren, Rick and Amy Smith, Donna and Don Cody, all of Union, Rev. Ridgeway Addison of Washington, DC, and Heather Addison of Gastonia, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Kayla Cody, Brett Smith and Brooke Smith, all of Union.

Funeral services were held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2013 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Roger Plemmons and Rev. Ridgeway Addison. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Larry Grant, Bill Randall, Mickey Wingo, Larry Wilson, Tommy Anthony and James Coffer.

The following were asked to assemble at the church at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort; members of the Rick Wade Sunday School Class of Tabernacle Baptist Church, friends from Wingos Service Station and members of the Keen Agers of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Memorials could be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, 915 South Pinckney Street, Union, SC 29379; or to the Shriners Hospital for Cripple Children, % Hejaz Shrine Temple, P. O. Box 667, Mauldin, SC 29662.
