Richard Lee Smith, 61, of LaGrange, Missouri and formerly of Keokuk, died Monday, February 21, 2005 at 4:00 A.M. at his home.

Richard Smith was born on August 13, 1943 in Alton, Illinois. He was the son of George A. and Ora Waltman Smith. He married Amelia "Amy" K. Riney on March 26, 1973 in Quincy, Illinois. She survives. He served with the United States Army. He had been employed as an over-the-road truck driver and then later was employed as an EMT with the Lee County Ambulance Company for ten years. He was a past member of the Keokuk Jaycees. He was interested in many things and got involved in those that interested him the most. He loved NASCAR racing and his favorite driver was Rusty Wallace.

Survivors include his wife, Amelia "Amy" Smith of LaGrange, Missouri; a daughter, Joetta Gould and her husband, Clifford, of Canton, Missouri; brothers, Butch Bell of Keokuk, Iowa, Bryan Bell of Hamilton, Illinois, Roy Bell of Keokuk, Iowa, and Charlie Bell of Keokuk, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Whitney, Melissa, Tracey and Jonathan Gould all of Canton, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his mother; his stepfather; one sister, Addie Bell; and his Grandmother Waltman who helped raised him.

Services were Thursday, February 24, 2005 at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in Keokuk National Cemetery with full military rites.
