DAVENPORT - Funeral services for Carole Powers Fuhs, a lifetime resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Mon- day at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with a prayer service offered at 5:30 p.m. Mrs. Fuhs died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center after a very courageous 10- month battle against various illnesses. Carole Powers was born Dec. 23, 1935, in Davenport, the daughter of William and Kathryn (Jourdan) Powers. She married Harold Fuhs on Aug. 6, 1955, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She attended St. Alphonsus School from kindergarten through eighth grade and then four years at the Immaculate Conception Academy in Davenport, graduating in 1953. She attended Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa for two years after earning a scholarship. In 1960, Carole earned a Bachelor of Arts from Marycrest College in Davenport with a major in Elementary Education and minors in English, Social Science and Spanish. In 1980, she earned a Master of Science degree in School Administration from Western Illinois University. In 1985, she added a Master of Arts degree in Reading Education at Marycrest College. Carole applied her education to teaching students in the Iowa Quad-Cities for 43 years. In 1955, she began her teaching career in Eldridge, Iowa, followed by a brief period in the Bettendorf School System, continued with a long tenure in Home Instruction and the Teenage Parenting Program (T.A.P.P.). Mrs. Fuhs culminated her career as a reading specialist-consultant for six years with the Davenport School System. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a 19-year member and the most recent President of the Alpha Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Education Society. The joys in her life were her family, friends and the students she taught. Memorials can be made to the St. Anthony Care and Share. Survivors include her husband, Harold; son, Todd Fuhs, and his wife, Patricia, Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughter, Theresa Kuhl, and her husband, Dennis, Plainfield, Ill.; sister Mary Boles, and her husband, Michael, Bettendorf; and grandchildren, Kristin Powers Fuhs, James Patrick Fuhs and Riley Kuhl Killion. She was preceded in death by her parents.
