Ms. Shirley Fonda
Yorkville - Funeral arrangements for Ms. Shirley Fonda, 28, an associate professor at Cornell University who died Wednesday in Tompkins County Hospital, have been completed by the Heintz Funeral Home in Utica.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home with burial in Grandview Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tomorrow.
Ms. Fonda was born in Syracuse, the daughter of William and June Wiggins Fonda. She came to Yorkville in 1949.
She was a graduate of Whitesboro Central High School, received her bachelor's degree from Utica College in 1970 and her master's degree from Cornell University in 1973. At the time of her death, Ms. Fonda was working for her doctorate in biological research at Cornell.
The Ithaca City Police Department is studying a list of experiments on which she had been working, looking for a clue to her death.
In 1968 she married Budd Brown in Ithaca.
Ms. Fonda was a member of Yorkville Presbyterian Church, Whitesboro Alumni Association, National Honor Association, and was a state volleyball official at Cornell.
Besides her parents, of Yorkville, she leaves a son, Kenneth Brown, of Ithaca; two sisters, Kim and Kelly Fonda of Yorkville, five brothers, William Jr., Steven, Matthew, and Keith Fonda, Yorkville and Mark Fonda of North Syracuse; maternal grandparents, Mrs. and Mr. Harry Wiggins of Syracuse and paternal grandparents, Mrs. Eunice Fonda of Syracuse, and Stewart Fonda, of North Syracuse.
Dr. Manuel Poss, of the county's medical examiner's office said yesterday that the cause of death may not be known for two to three weeks.

Investigate Prof's Death
ITHACA - An investigation is under way by city police and the Cornell University Safety Division to determine the cause of death Wednesday of Shirley A. Fonda, 28, of 901 Dryden Road. The investigation was requested by Dr. David Safadi, county medical examiner, police said.
According to detectives, Miss Fonda, who was a plant laboratory technician at Cornell, called the Cornell building to say she felt quite ill. She was taken to Tompkins County Hospital, treated, and released to the care of relatives, according to police. She returned to the hospital and was admitted Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives are gathering a list of ail the herbicides used in the lab where Miss Fonda worked, police said; The list will be turned over to Dr. Safadi. Assistant Medical Examiner.
Dr. Manuel Posso said Thursday that a ruling on the cause of death could take two or three weeks. Services for Miss Fonda will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Heintz Funeral Home, Utica.
