Death of Albert Barnes.
Another old resident of our town has passed away, Albert Barnes having died at the residence of his sister, Hattie Barnes, at 11:30 on Wednesday night, after a short illness, having been prostrated by a severe pain in the chest a day or two before his death. Mr. Barnes was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, August 25th, 1833, and was nearly 66 years old. His parents moved to Iowa in 1839, and he came to California in 1862, settling in Monterey county where he hoped to regain his health for which he came to this coast. About 1875, when Bodie began to show signs of busy life he came to Bridgeport and has resided here most of the time since. In addition to his sister, mentioned above, he left a sister, Mrs. Plaskett, of Salinas, Monterey county, and was the uncle of B.R., R.G., H.B. and Miss Winnie Patterson, all of Bridgeport. James Barnes, who was an old-timer of this Valley, but moved to Modoc county, and who is now dead, was his brother, and his brother Hiram, who once visited Bridgeport, was killed about two months ago by being run into by a railroad train near his home in Iowa while out riding with his family.
Albert Barnes was of a quiet retiring disposition and esteemed by all his townsmen.
The funeral took place at 6 p.m. Thursday and was well attended. Services were held at the grave, where District Attorney J. D. Murphey read the services, the Choir singing "Asleep in Jesus," and "Nearer, My God, To Thee," where the remains, incased in a beautiful casket, were laid in their final resting place. The relatives have our warmest sympathy.
