DECEASED.

Another old and esteemed resident of Antelope Valley has gone to a final rest. On Sunday morning last Mrs. D. M. Barnett, died at Agnews of general debility. she had resided in Antelope Valley half of her life time, her husband having a well appointed hotel and a good home until a few years ago when it was destroyed by fire, losing all they had, there being but a partial insurance on the property. Mr. Barnett and his wife soon after went to Santa Cruz, for the Winder where they remained most of the time since. The loss of a home so dear to her, and where she had buried three children, was too much for her and her health failed from brooding over her misfortunes until the end came on Sunday last. She was conscious before she passed away, and gave directions for her burial, desiring to be brought to Antelope for interment alongside her children in the Antelope Cemetery. The remains, accompanied by her husband and youngest son, George Barnett, of Sonora, were met at Gardnerville on Tuesday by her oldest son, Homer F. Barnett, of Antelope, and brought to Antelope Valley, where the interment took place on Thursday, all in the valley attending the last rites for their departed friend. She was a good, kindhearted woman and those who knew her will have great sympathy for the husband and son in their bereavement.
(Bridgeport Chronicle-Union, 2/18/1899)

NOTE: On the 1880 Census, Eliza Barnett was aged 40 years old and stated she was born in Kentucky. On that census, her son Homer was listed as aged 20 years and son George was 4 years old, born California. No other Barnett children were in the home.
