He was born on July 5, 1927 in McClung, Virginia, a son of the late Charles Pinkney and Ethel Virginia McClung Armstrong.
He was a production manager for Burke Parsons Bolby in Goshen, Virginia , attended Calvary Baptist Church of Millboro Springs and was a WWII Army Veteran.
He is survived by a son, David Stephen Armstrong and Janet Jasper of Richmond, Virginia and son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Donna Armstrong of Millboro, Virginia; one sister, Emma Jane Pugh of Richmond, Virginia; three grandchildren, David Alexander Armstrong and Glenn Armstrong both of Richmond, Virginia and Krista Armstrong of Millboro, Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Williams Armstrong, an infant son and a grandson, Charles Brian Armstrong.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 1, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverends Dan Fender and Rob Sherrard officiating. Interment will follow at Windy Cove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Craig, Creigh Deeds, Bill Manion, Don Blanchard, Sam Burke, Tommy Wood, Jim Pritt and Sammy Wood. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Calvary Baptist Church, HCR 03 Box 4A, Millboro, Va. 24460 or the Windy Cove Church Building Fund, Rt. 1 Box 84-3, Millboro, Va. 24460.
