Betty Lou Bohac passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, February 10, 2013 in Austin, Texas.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 13 at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home from 5-6 PM with the Rosary being recited at 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 14 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church with Rev. Thomas D'Souza officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Betty was born January 12, 1925 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Joseph and Minnie Lee Dupre. She attended Academy of Mary Immaculate and earned an associate's degree from Hardin College in bookkeeping. On September 1, 1949, Betty married Otmar Bohac in Wichita Falls.
Betty was a parishioner of Sacred Heart and Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic churches. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Altar Society, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, KJZT of Texas, and was active with St. Vincent de Paul Society and Thrift Store. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Otmar Bohac; twin infant daughters, Mary Paulette and Karen Marie; granddaughter, Erin Crowley; and her sister Ann Walkup of Dallas.
Survivors include four children, Richard Andrew Bohac and his wife Denise of Dallas;Deborah Lynn "Debbie" Crowley and her husband Tim of Austin; Elizabeth "Diane" Housey of Portland, Oregon; Patricia Ann "Patty" St. Jacques and her husband Kevin of Dallas; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, and Mimi to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A true Southern hostess and homemaker, Betty always made sure her many guests were well fed, comfortable, and happy. She was a wonderful cook and her many legendary recipes will be cherished by her family in years to come. A thoughtful listener with a gentle sense of humor and a quick wit, Betty always made everyone feel comfortable.
Throughout her life Betty remained an active member in her church and its organizations. She went to Mass often and recited the prayers of the Rosary almost daily. Her Catholic faith was very important to her and teaching that faith to her family was her greatest gift. For this they will be eternally grateful. Betty lived her life much like St. Theresa of Lisieux, with "great love and little ways". Her sweet spirit and gentleness will be deeply missed.
