Abraham Bishop
Abraham Bishop was an important though not well-known participant in the formation of the nation's first party system, he provided a critical link between the leaders of Thomas Jefferson's Republican Party and its rand-and-file constituency in Connecticut. Bishop was a forceful critic of Alexander Hamilton's Federalst Party, its program of commercialization and, above all, the deferential politics that had been characteristic of the colonial area. He also participated in another rebellion: the election of Thomas Jefferson and his "Revolution" of 1800. The effect of this bloodless political upheaval was just as influential on the nation's policy and society as the uprising of 1776.
