At an early age, Tommie confessed Christ as her personal Savior. In 1961, she relocated to Englewood, New Jersey and immediately united under the leadership of the late Apostle Arturo Skinner. She served on the choir, missionary board and anything that the ministry needed her to do. She moved to Paterson in 1967 with all 11 children teaching them the way of the Bible and Chirstian life. She taught her children to pray and lean on God and always put God first.
While serving under Apostle Arturo Skinner, Mother Chandler met a 16 year old minister by the name of R.L. Jackson. She saw God in him and helped him begin his minisry in the front room of her home. She faithfully served in the ministry of Apostle R.L. Jackson until her death.
Over time, she met and married the late Deacon Sidney Belcher. Mother Chandler was employed by White Birch Nursing Home until she retired in 1992. It was then that she became an entrepreneur owning Happy Christian Daycare Centers I and II in Paterson, New Jersey.
In 2001, she was ordained as founder and overseer of Anointed Word Ministries in Paterson, New Jersey. At that time, she decided to retire as CEO of Happy Christian Daycare I and II to devote her life to the ministry.
On Saturday, September 3, 2011, God brought the earthly struggles of Founder and Overseer Tommie L. Chandler to an end after a lengthy illness. Her numerous health challenges were now overcome and conquered an eternal peace that she preached about for over 70 years was now realized as her faith gave way to sight. Her life and ministry closed the chapter to a connection to Paterson's rich church history and she will be greatly missed.
