Robert E. Bankert, 64, of 512 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown, died Friday, November 22, at Hanover General Hospital.

Born in Hanover, he was the son of the late Walter and Ida Mae (Stalke) Bankert.

A member of Annunciation Church of McSherrystown and a usher at the church; he was a member of McSherrystown Home Association and the McSherrystown Moose; VFW; Republican Club and Hanover Home Association, all of Hanover and the C.W.V. of Bonneauville.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve of Yory and the National Guard of Hanover.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. (Orndorff) Bankert; four daughters, Vickilynn Maylaui of Richmond, Virginia, Brenda M. Hoy of Woodridge, Virginia, Andrea A. Krumbine of York and Sheila M. Bankert at home; four sons, Robert A. Bankert, Randy L. Bankert, Norman B. Bankert and John E. Bankert, all of Hanover; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Patrick Bankert of New Oxford, Richard Bankert of Satellite Beach, Florida, Frederick Bankert of Abbottstown and Mark Bankert of Hanover.

Funeral services will be hrld 11 a.m. Monday fron the Hicks Funeral Home in McSherrystown, with his pastor, the Rev. Paul M. Miller, officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday evening, with prayers at 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be sent to a favorite charity.
