Obituary of Garland Samuel Alford, Sr.
(November 9, 1922 ~ February 7, 2013)

Biloxi, MS ~ Garland Samuel Alford, Sr., age 90, passed away February 7, 2013. He was born in Pike County, MS to Samuel Newton and Ida Ellzey Alford; but lived most of his life in Biloxi.

Garland attended Biloxi High School before serving his country. First, in the Army National Guard during World War II, then as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and as a civil electronics technician at Keesler Air Force Base. But, his real love was for music. All who knew Garland can attest that he was an accomplished musician and talented trumpet player. He played for years at the old Plaza Club in West Biloxi; then with groups "Yesteryears" and "The Stardusters" at various venues across the coast.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Rannie Alford; and his beloved wife of 57 years, Doris Amerson Alford. He is survived by his five children: Garland "Butch" Alford, Jr., Charles and Kathy Alford, Karen and Greg Broussard, Vince Alford, and Patricia and Chuck Mauer; seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home. Friends may visit two hours prior. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park.
