Brian August "Buck" Buckner, 57, of Transit Road died Saturday (Oct. 1, 2011) at Strong Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Buck was born Dec. 27, 1953, in Albion, a son of the late Vincent and Helene (Wilsea) Buckner and had lived in this area all of his life.

Buck was a member of the Albion Elks Lodge 1006 B.P.O.E. He had worked for Eastman Kodak as a Mill Wright, retiring after 37 years. He was a graduate of Albion High School Class of 1972 where he wrestled, played football and did shotput for the track and field team. He loved to golf, bowl, play volleyball, cards, play games, go camping and sit around bonfires with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Linda Hawkins and father-in-law Thomas "Smitty" Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Patti; son Bradley Buckner of Rochester; daughters Elizabeth (Marty) Bezon of Albion, Katie (Brian Stefaniak) Buckner of Albion; sister Marcia Buckner of Albion; brother Brent Buckner of Albion; mother-in-law Dee Smith of Albion; brothers-in-law Mike (Donna) Smith of Kent, Dale (Marcia) Smith of Albion, Walter Hawkins of Medina; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion where his memorial service will follow at 6. Memorials may be made to the family so they will be able to purchase laptop computers for patients who are receiving treatments at the Wilmot Cancer Center.
